Karl Alfred von Zittel
1839-1904
von Zittel was Professor of Geology and Palaeontology at the Bavarian State Collection in Munich. Under his direction, this collection became one of the most important collections in Europe. He was known for his description of a fossil of a pterosaur wing with the membrane preserved.
