Abstract
The six known species of Pteranodon from Kansas are now considered to comprise four distinct subgeneric groups, (1) small, noncrested forms, the nyctosaurs, Pteranodon (Nyctosaurus) gracilis, and P. (Nyctosaurus) bonneri, n. sp., (2) large, bulbous-crested forms, the sternbergias, Pteranodon (Sternbergia) sternbergi subgen. nov. and P. (Sternbergia) walkeri, n. sp. et subgen. nov., (3) large elongate-crested forms, the longiceps, Pteranodon (Longicepia) longiceps, subgen. nov., and P. (Longicepis) marshi, subgen. nov., et nom. nov., and (4) small, shortcrested forms, the occidentalias, Pteranodon (Occidentalia) eatoni, subgen. nov. et nom. nov.
