The finding of the first pterosaurian remains in Madagascar is here reported. Their occurrence is documented by four fossil teeth, recently collected in the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian) sediments extending along the eastern rim of the Mahajanga Basin (NW Madagascar). Two morphotypes, possibly belonging to the same taxon, are recognised, and are tentatively referred to the suborder Rhamphorhynchoidea. For their geological age, the Madagascan specimens represent the most ancient pterosaurs found so far in Africa.
