Middle Jurassic Pterosaurs

The Middle Jurassic period in the United Kingdom shows very few pterosaur remains.  There are a lot of dispersed individual sediments with local names.  The main sediment groups are as follows.

Bathonian
Bajocian
Great Oolite Series
Late Inferior Oolite
Middle Inferior Oolite
Early Inferior Oolite
Late Cornbrash
Late Deltic Series including Stonesfield Slate
Middle Deltic Series
Early Deltic Series and Early Estuarine Series
Dogger

The Stonesfield Slate of Oxfordshire is the main pterosaur bearing sediment in this period within the United Kingdom.  This sediment contains a wide variety of individual bones and fragmentary remains of several types of pterosaurs including Rhamphocephalus, Pterodactylus, Dimorphodon, and other unidentified types.  Several indeterminate fossils are lumped under the name of Rhamphocephalus.

Around the world there are also few remains from the Middle Jurassic, a number of which are from the Yixian Formation and other rock groups in China.

The Middle Jurassic is transitional between the two maps shown.
It is about 180-163 Ma in the past.
